Carmel Christkindlmarkt, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The primary mission of the organization is to create and host an authentic, traditional German Christmas festival - the Carmel Christkindlmarkt. The festival has taken place for four years (2017-2021, skipping 2020 due to Covid-19), drawing 400,000+ visitors annually from mid-November through Christmas Eve, with the market expanding hours until New Year’s Eve in 2022. In 2019 and 2021, the Carmel Christkindlmarkt was voted the #1 Holiday Market in North America according to USAToday’s 10Best Readers’ Choice poll.
The mission of the Carmel Christkindlmarkt is supported by a small team of year-roundstaff and seasonal staff members. Kinderecke/Werkstatt Staff
Pay range: $15-$20/hr
Job description: Part-time, Seasonal
The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is the premier holiday offering in Indiana, attracting well over a million people since the opening. The Kinderecke (Children’s Corner) and Werkstatt (Workshop) are family-centered areas of the market where children can explore, learn, create,and socialize. The Kinderecke/Werkstatt Staff are primarily responsible for maintaining a safe, accessible, fun, organized, and festive atmosphere for all guests of the market who visit the Kinderecke and Werstatt
Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness in the Kinderecke and Werkstatt huts and the surrounding grounds
- Maintain organization of all supplies
- Maintain a safe and accessible environment in the Kinderecke and Werkstatt huts
- Guide families in simple crafts and activities
- Assist other staff and volunteers with transitions from one activity to another
- Welcome and guide actors, artists, musicians, and dancers when needed
- Follow and maintain a predetermined schedule
- Complete all items on the open and close checklists as required
- Calls coordinator on-call in case of emergency or issue
Candidate Requirements:
- Must complete and pass a background check
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the market
- Must be able to work, on-site, in-person for 5 - 6-hour shifts
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds
- Must be able to work nights and weekends
- Must enjoy being around and communicating with people of allages and backgrounds
