Weekends in December draw large crowds, especially in the evenings. Weekdays, by contrast, offer a more relaxed pace. You can stroll through vendor huts, chat with artisans, ice skate, and enjoy the festive atmosphere without feeling crowded.
Pro Tip: The least busy times are typically Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Christkindlmarkt is filled with unique, handcrafted gifts you won’t find just anywhere. During the week, vendors have more time to chat and share stories. The earlier in the season you visit, the more likely inventory will be fully stocked. It’s important to note that once merchandise runs out, such as the annual Glühwein mug, there will be no restock.
Typically, the annual Glühwein mug sells out during the last week of the Market. Each year, we order based on the estimated number of mugs we’ll need for the season, using the prior year as a guide. While that number increases every year, we have always sold out.
The ice skating rink, operated by the City of Carmel as the Ice at Carter Green, is a popular attraction at the Market. On weekdays, there is more availability of tickets and fewer people on the ice, making for a smoother, more enjoyable skating experience. There’s something especially magical about the Market when it’s not at peak capacity. You’ll notice a more intimate, European-style market feel! Even in the rain, the Market can feel magical, and with fewer crowds, the seasonal pros know it is a good time to visit.
Bonus: Four heated barrel huts provide cozy seating for up to six people - perfect for warming up. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are easier to access during the week. We ask that guests spend no more than 30 minutes in the barrels to allow others to use them.
